Morgan stone is a rare natural PINK GEM. Like emerald and aquamarine, it belongs to the beryl family. It can present beautiful peach, rose, pink or orange pink.
The history of Morgan stone
In 1910, gem grade pink "beryl" with good color and size was found on an island along the coast of Madagascar. At the same time, the same "pink beryl" was also found in the Pala mining area of California, USA. In December 1910, the New York Academy of Sciences announced the name of the gem "Morgan", which was taken from the name of J. P. Morgan, an American financier and gem collector.
The origin of Morgan stone includes Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, Pakistan and California.
The color and characteristics of Morgan stone
The color of "Morgan stone" is caused by "manganese" element, which can present pink, rose, peach and salmon colors. The most popular Morgan stone is pink and rose tone.
Morgan stone is very polychromatic. Pink to blue pink can be observed under dichroism.
Morgan stone is a kind of gem with high purity. Generally speaking, there are few inclusions visible to naked eyes in the faceted Morgan stone. Under the 10x magnifying glass, the rainlike inclusions similar to aquamarine can be observed.
Factors affecting the price of Morgan stone
The price of pink and rose "Morgan stone" is higher, the one with obvious orange tone is slightly lower, and the value of too light color is lower.
Heat treatment can improve the color of Morgan stone, eliminate the yellow and orange hues, and obtain a very stable color. However, the heating treatment of Morgan stone is generally difficult to detect.
Wearing and preservation of Morgan stone
Morgan stone has good stability and toughness, hardness 7.5 is relatively moderate, to avoid friction and collision with higher hardness gem, clean with warm soapy water and dry with soft cloth.
