Star Ruby is a special variety of ruby. It has the effect of starlight. Under the point light source, you can see six white reflection light bands like starlight.

The cause of starlight effect

Due to the crystal growth characteristics of ruby, there are sometimes three groups of "rutile fibrous inclusions" arranged in parallel at an angle of 120 degrees in the interior of ruby. The growth direction of these three groups of inclusions is perpendicular to the crystal axis. When the gemstone is cut along the crystal axis, it will show six stars on the arc surface.

The origin of starlight Ruby

Burma Mogok produces the best "Star Ruby" with a higher saturation of red. Sri Lanka is also an important source of "Star Ruby". Compared with Myanmar, Sri Lanka's "Star Ruby" often has a purple tone.

The value of starlight Ruby

In the international market, the carat unit price of starlight ruby is generally lower than that of faceted ruby. On the one hand, the weight of starlight ruby is relatively heavy due to its large pavilion. On the other hand, it is also a translucent gem with more inclusions.

When choosing "Starlight ruby", we should first pay attention to whether the star line is in the middle of the arc, whether the star line is obvious, and whether the color saturation of the gem is good.

Magu is still the highest value producing area in Myanmar, and the highest level of color is also known as "pigeon blood.
